In light of the ongoing geopolitical situation in the Middle East, and Virgin Voyages concerns for the safety of its passengers and crew, the brand has deemed it necessary to make changes to its planned repositioning cruises.

Following extensive consultations with global security experts and careful consideration of potential escalations in the region over the next 12 months, the decision has been made to modify the iconic "Sea Change" repositioning voyages originally planned from Australia to Athens on the award-winning Resilient Lady.

Effective 27 March, 2024, Resilient Lady will embark on an alternative route, sailing around the coast of Africa. This once-in-a-lifetime journey will include stops in Eden and Fremantle (Perth) in Australia, Port Louis (Mauritius Islands), Durban and Cape Town (South Africa), Walvis Bay (Namibia), Praia (Cape Verde), Santa Cruz de Tenerife (Spain), Casablanca (Morocco), Barcelona (Spain), Valletta (Malta), as well as Santorini and Piraeus (Athens) in Greece, offering passengers extended time at sea.

Virgin Voyages have stated that all passengers initially booked for the repositioning voyages will retain guaranteed spots on the revised itinerary at no additional cost, along with a price protection commitment. For those with scheduling conflicts, options include receiving a Future Voyage Credit based on the paid balance or a full refund. Virgin Voyages acknowledges the understanding of passengers and travel partners regarding the necessity of this change amid complex geopolitical challenges.

In a statement issued this evening, Thursday 8th February, Virgin Voyages stresses it remains committed to supporting its First Mates (travel agents) by ensuring the protection of their commissions. Given the potential for continued regional conflict, the company is conducting a comprehensive review of other geographically similar repositioning voyages and linked sailings, with updates on any further adjustments to be provided in the coming weeks.
