Scarlet Lady - It's not you, It's Me!

Back in Feb 2020, in a grey and wet Dover, I was invited on a press trip to visit Scarlet Lady, and I absolutely LOVED her (obviously - who wouldn’t?).

Afterwards, I wrote this “Dear Scarlet” letter to acknowledge that whilst I was not the intended market for Scarlet Lady (at that time) being the wrong side of 60), those of you who were would fall for her as I did, and enjoy the party life in Miami.

Then came the pandemic, which opened up the door for more people to experience her on a Summer Soirée, and as it worked out, she actually worked her magic on everyone, whatever their ages and I happily ate my words. Unfortunately I was unable to join one of these trips - it would have been so lovely to rekindle our relationship with the sun shining. It makes me sad to think I might not get to see her again, for a while at least, but hopefully I may get to sail on one of her sister ships in Europe.

Scarlet Lady, It’s Not You, It’s Me!

Dearest Scarlet Lady,

I’ve obsessed over you, I’ve stalked you, and finally we met!

However, after spending some quality time together, we realised that we are not as compatible as we first hoped.

I get it - its the age difference! If only we had met 20 years ago. You need someone younger! I’m not cool enough for you, Scarlet; I really wish I was.

You are fresh, high-energy, vibrant. You keep yourself fit and healthy - eat well and play hard. You really love your music, Scarlet and have some kick-ass moves! I just can’t keep up with you.

I have to let you go - there are so many others out there perfect for you. Someone in their 20’s, 30’s, - even their 40’s - who are going to absolutely love you. They will love you for who you are, and for what you are not! They will get your quirky side, like I do and will celebrate your differences!

I will always love you Scarlet, and hope we can still be friends. I would love to stay in touch with the family, and to get to hang out with your sisters, Valiant Lady and Resilient Lady, next year.

You will always have a special place in my heart and I will always have your back, and fight your corner. Hell, I’ll even introduce you to more appropriate partners.

But for now, beautiful Scarlet Lady,

X Bon Voyage, my darling X

Caveat: On reflection I realised that my reticence was entirely due to my own insecurities and I risked missing out on all Scarlet has to offer purely for thinking about age as a number rather than a state of mind. So hopefully we can re-kindle our relationship in the future. I’ve met sister Valiant Lady who also stole my heart.
