Princess MedallionClass™

With effect from Summer 2021 all ships within the Princess fleet will be designated MedallionClass™, and will be equipped with the latest technology to transform the guest experience. Before boarding, all guests will take possession of their own personalised OceanMedallion - and believe me it is a game-changer!

What is Ocean Medallion?

The brain child of technology innovator John Padgett, Innovation Officer for Carnival Corporation, OceanMedallion is a wearable electronic device, not much bigger than a 10 pence piece, holding guests’ unique digital identity. Replacing the traditional cruise card, it communicates with thousands of readers onboard and in port. OceanMedallion can be used for payments (provided you have registered a payment method), , as a contactless cabin key and to expedite embarkation. It can be worn as a wristband, pendant, clip or simply kept in your pocket or bag.

Whats more, it is also a collectible item - an unique souvenir from your cruise as it is laser-etched with your name and voyage date. Guests are able to keep their OceanMedallion when they disembark, safe in the knowledge that their personalised data will be available on their next voyage, when they will be issued with a new Medallion before boarding, Also, there are optional accessories to purchase on board to enable you to wear OceanMedallion in your own inimitable style.

Princess Cruises prime aim is to enhance the guest experience, and OceanMedallion is intended to make every guest feel like a VIP and helps them relax and enjoy their cruise even before they leave home. . OceanMedallion has been designed to deliver an entirely new level of service and create a holiday that is more simple, effortless and personalised.

Once you have provided your mandatory immigration information in Cruise Personalizer, and have downloaded the MedallionClass app, you can go to the OceanReady section of the app, tap "Medallion" and complete or conﬁrm your shipping information at least 12 days before your Princess holiday begins. You can then begin planning your personalised on board experience, including your preferred boarding time - an important consideration currently as it allows you to minimise contact in a crowded terminal.

What can OceanMedallion do for you once on the ship? Ever lost your significant other on board? Want to ensure you know the whereabouts of the kids? Do you ever get lost when exploring the ship (or is that just me)? The Medallion’s ‘compass’ feature means guests can find and stay connected with friends and family onboard, (so no need to pack those walkie talkies in future), as well as navigate their way around the ship. OceanMedallion will remember your preferences (Pina Colada anyone?) and even significant events such as your birthday or moving to a different loyalty tier. To maximise its use, you will ideally have your own digital devices, but there are also many digital screens/portals throughout the ship.

Using the OceanNow feature, guests are able to order drinks and snacks, plus holiday essentials such as suntan lotion and swimming goggles, directly to anywhere onboard including their stateroom. So you won’t miss a minute of that sunset as you can order your sundowner cocktail to be delivered straight to your chair.

OceanMedallion Key Features

♾ Expedited arrival - Guests who arrive at the terminal with travel documents (i.e. passports) uploaded to their profile enjoy a streamlined and expedited check-in process that gets their holiday started even sooner;
♾ Stateroom entry - No need to touch, swipe or insert cards or devices into the door handle to unlock the stateroom. As a guest approaches their stateroom the door automatically unlocks;
♾ OceanView On-demand services - Allows you to tune in to Ocean Stories to watch four new cruise-related travel programs from anywhere on the ship, plus you can enjoy two direct-to-digital streaming original series, "GO" and "Local Eyes";

♾ OceanNow - Using smart devices, guests have the ability to order drinks, food and retail items such as suntan lotion and have them delivered directly anywhere onboard, including to their stateroom;

Dine My Way - the latest innovation to be announced - allows you to pre-book your dining anywhere on board, when you want, with who you want and how you want. That might be ordering breakfast on your veranda, a pizza poolside, or a reservation at a specialist restaurant. You can upload your preferences and/or allergies - even dictate whether you want a quick meal before a show, or if you would prefer a long, leisurely dinner.

♾ OceanCompass Family and friends locator - Accessible on portals throughout the ships and via guests’ smart devices, OceanCompass leverages the OceanMedallion to easily locate and chat with friends and family onboard. OceanCompass guides guests throughout their journey, providing directional information so they can seamlessly navigate to their next point of interest;
♾ JourneyView Interactive voyage timeline - Available on ship portals and via guests’ smart devices, JourneyView is an interactive timeline that lets guests scroll through all of the events available on board during their voyage and bookmark activities they’re interested in to their own personalized itinerary. Voyage itineraries are available as many as 60 days in advance, allowing guests to start planning before they leave home.

Whilst all of these features are complimentary, there are additional features for which there is a fee:

♾ OceanCasino - allows you to bet real money on slots, poker, bingo, roulette and more without setting foot in the Casino (goes without saying but ‘play responsibly’);

♾ MedallionNet - an extra one-off charge to access the ship’s high-speed “unlimited” wifi service from anywhere on board. There are now WiFi points in all staterooms ensuring a perfect WiFi signal. WiFi is even included in some fares.

OCEAN MEDALLION Trivia

Ships are fitted with 72 miles of cable and 4,000 sensors to get them OceanMedallion ready. Its implementation requires more than 650 readers and 4,000 interactive portals. OceanMedallion is waterproof, so can be worn safely in the shower and swimming pools.
