I’ve always believed that travel is about more than simply getting from one place to another. Whether it’s watching glaciers calve into Arctic waters, discovering a tucked-away taverna in a Greek island harbour or waking up to a new skyline from the balcony of a cruise ship, the moments that stay with us are often the ones we never planned.

I’m Kathy Taylor, a freelance journalist and travel writer specialising in cruises, destinations and travel experiences around the world. I am the founder and editor of Cruise Lowdown, an independent online cruise and travel magazine dedicated to honest reviews, practical advice and inspiring travel stories.

Over the years, I have sailed with many of the world’s leading cruise lines, from contemporary family-friendly ships to luxury ocean voyages and expedition cruises in some of the planet’s most remote destinations. My travels have taken me across Europe, the Mediterranean, the Norwegian Fjords, the Arctic, the Caribbean, North America and beyond.

My work combines first-hand experience with detailed research, helping travellers make informed decisions about where to go, what to book and how to get the most from their holiday. From ship reviews and cabin guides to destination features and cruise news, my aim is always to provide clear, balanced and useful information based on genuine experience.

Before moving into travel journalism, I worked in educational content development, where accuracy, clarity and attention to detail were at the heart of everything I produced. Those same principles continue to guide my writing today.

In addition to editing Cruise Lowdown, I contribute cruise and travel features for industry and consumer publications, work closely with cruise lines, tourism boards and travel brands, and regularly attend ship launches, travel events and industry briefings to stay up to date with the latest developments in the cruise sector. I am part of Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) #ChooseCruise initiative - a select group of cruise bloggers, influencers and content creators who champion cruises as an exceptional holiday choice.
