Marella Cruises unveils the world’s first ‘PJkini’ – but would you wear one?
Could this be the ultimate cruise holiday outfit, or a fashion step too far?
If you’ve ever wished you could roll out of bed and head straight to the pool without bothering to get dressed, Marella Cruises may have just come up with the answer.
The cruise line has unveiled what it describes as the world’s first PJkini – a hybrid pyjama and swimwear outfit designed to take guests from cabin to poolside and even to lunch, all without needing an outfit change.
Before you start searching for one online, there’s a catch. The PJkini isn’t on sale - at least not yet. Marella says it is testing public reaction before deciding whether to take the idea any further.
A Nation That Feels Guilty About Relaxing

The unusual concept follows research commissioned by Marella Cruises, which suggests Brits struggle to truly switch off.
According to the study, the average person experiences feelings of guilt eight times a month, with many admitting they feel bad about taking time for themselves, staying in their pyjamas too long, enjoying comfort food or even taking a genuine sick day.
The research also found that 61% struggle to fully relax while on holiday and that many spend the first three days of a week-long break simply trying to unwind.
Designed for Maximum Relaxation

The PJkini has been styled by television presenter Denise van Outen, who returns as Marella Cruises’ “Chief Chill-Out Officer”.
The idea is simple: eliminate one more decision from your day and make it easier to embrace doing absolutely nothing.
Whether passengers would actually want to stroll from their cabin to the buffet in sleepwear-inspired swimwear is another question entirely.
Clever Marketing or Future Cruise Fashion?
The concept has already sparked plenty of conversation online and is likely to divide opinion.
Some will see it as the ultimate comfort-first holiday outfit, while others may prefer to keep their pyjamas firmly inside the cabin.
Either way, it certainly succeeds in highlighting Marella’s wider message of stress-free, all-inclusive cruising, where flights, transfers, food, drinks and entertainment are all included.
For now, the PJkini remains just a concept while Marella gauges public interest.
The Lowdown

The PJkini may never make it beyond the drawing board, but it has certainly achieved its aim of getting people talking. Whether you think it’s inspired or utterly ridiculous, it raises an interesting point: perhaps we should all feel a little less guilty about doing absolutely nothing on holiday.
But the question remains…
Would you wear one on your next cruise?
