Galápagos United: Historic Lindblad Fleet Ceremony Anchors in Academy Bay
Four National Geographic-Lindblad Expedition Ships Unite for Historic Naming Ceremony in the Galápagos
Academy Bay becomes backdrop for First-Ever Fleet Gathering Celebrating New Additions to Longest-Serving International Expedition Brand in the Galápagos
In an extraordinary show of unity, four National Geographic-Lindblad Expeditions ships gathered yesterday in the Galápagos Islands for the first time in history. Anchored together in Academy Bay, off Puerto Ayora, the National Geographic Delfina, National Geographic Gemini, National Geographic Islander II and National Geographic Endeavour II marked a momentous occasion: the official naming of the fleet’s two newest vessels.
This unprecedented fleet assembly was more than a celebratory photo opportunity - it was a powerful reflection of Lindblad Expeditions’ legacy and leadership in the region. As the longest-serving international expedition operator in the Galápagos, Lindblad’s deep connection to the archipelago is evident not only in its decades-long presence but also in its growing and diverse fleet.
From intimate, private explorations aboard the 16-guest National Geographic Delfina, perfect for families and charters, to adventurous journeys on the 96-guest Endeavour II, designed for those eager to immerse themselves in the Galápagos’ vibrant marine life, the fleet offers something for every kind of traveller. The newly welcomed Delfina and Gemini add even more flexibility and variety to a destination already revered for its extraordinary wildlife and ecological significance.
Later today, a ceremonial christening will officially welcome the new vessels, National Geographic Delfina and National Geographic Gemini, into the fleet. The event is set to include Lindblad Expeditions’ leadership team, staff and crew with their families, guests, local dignitaries, and members of the Galápagos community—spanning generations of those who have been part of the Lindblad journey.
The ceremony will also reaffirm Lindblad’s enduring commitment to conservation, education, and local partnership in the Galápagos. With National Geographic as a long-standing partner, the company continues to champion responsible tourism, scientific research, and immersive guest experiences that help protect the unique ecosystems of the archipelago.
