Edge Class Ship Celebrity Apex Coming to Southampton

Raising the Bar for UK Cruising

The British cruise community is celebrating the news that Celebrity Apex is coming to Southampton for a whole season from May-November 2024. Why are we so excited? Celebrity Apex will be the largest Celebrity Cruise ship, and first ever Edge Class ship to home-port in the UK. which makes it a big deal.

What is Edge Class?

Edge Class is a classification of cruise ship unique to Celebrity Cruises that is a departure from traditional cruise design. Celebrity’s vision was to redefine luxury and create transformational, innovative outward-facing ships. This was achieved by having the ships designed completely in 3-D, and featuring the work of A-list global architects and designers including a partnership with American interiors expert Nate Berkus who serves as Celebrity Cruises Edge Design Ambassador. Jouin Manku designed the fabulous Grand Plaza; Kelly Hoppen MBE designed and furnished the fabulous contemporary interiors onboard, whilst Tom Wright of WKK (designers of the Burj Al Arab Hotel in Dubai), was responsible for the open decks and exterior profile. Together with other contemporary designers, all experts in their fields, the team arrived at designs that are fresh, exciting, current and comfortable.

Edge Class really pushes the boundaries of cruise ship architecture. From the Parabolic Ultrabow designed to slice more efficiently through the water, to the urban condominium-inspired accommodations and the industry-first Magic Carpet®, Celebrity Cruises have reinvented cruising, to ensure that Edge Class ships are the epitome of design excellence.

How Many Edge Class Ships Are There?

There are currently three revolutionary Edge Class ships: Celebrity Edge, Celebrity Apex, and the most recent, Celebrity Beyond. A fourth Edge Class ship, Celebrity Ascent, will join the fleet in late 2023.
