Chance to Name an Orphaned Moose Calf

Holland America Line is offering a delightful opportunity for its guests and social media followers: the chance to name an orphaned moose calf. In a heartfelt collaboration with the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Centre (AWCC), known for its dedication to caring for injured and orphaned animals, this initiative invites everyone to join in the naming fun.

From now until June 23rd, name suggestions can be submitted via designated posts on Holland America Line’s official Facebook and Instagram pages. Following this, a list of the top 10 names will be posted on social media for public voting, with the winning name being announced in early July.

This summer, Holland America Line stands out as the only cruise line offering moose encounters at the AWCC facility. Guests cruising to Alaska with stops in Anchorage or Whittier will have the exclusive opportunity to visit the centre on two special shore excursions. These experiences allow guests to feed the moose and gain fascinating insights from AWCC experts about the animals’ diet, behaviour, and their wild counterparts.

Kacy Cole, Chief Marketing Officer at Holland America Line, expressed her enthusiasm: “Holland America Line has been exploring Alaska longer than any other cruise line and we are deeply committed to supporting AWCC in its conservation efforts to protect Alaska’s wildlife. Our guests take an Alaska cruise to see wildlife in the region and moose are part of ‘Alaska’s Big Five.’ We are excited to give our fans the opportunity to participate with the Alaska community in a fun and meaningful way.”

Echoing this sentiment, Sarah Howard, Executive Director of AWCC, said: “We are grateful to partners like Holland America Line that help AWCC continue the work we do to protect and preserve Alaska’s wildlife. Most orphan animals that come into our facility are given a name to help foster a bond not only with our staff, but with our visitors as well. We can’t wait to see what name is chosen by Holland America Line’s fans.”

Looking ahead to 2024 and 2025, Holland America Line is set to offer a variety of Alaska cruises and Cruisetours across six ships. Guests can choose from seven-day itineraries, extended 14-day voyages, or even a 28-day Arctic Circle adventure featuring 12 Alaska ports. Notably, Holland America Line remains the only operator to visit the Yukon on a Cruisetour, combining a cruise with a visit to Denali National Park.

Onboard, guests can benefit from the expertise of a Wildlife Spotting Guide to help them observe Alaska’s incredible animals, including whales, eagles, bears, otters, seals, and of course, moose. Additionally, the cruise line offers 180 land tours to explore a variety of species, including the unforgettable shore excursions to AWCC.
