A-ROSA SENA EMBARKS ON MAIDEN VOYAGE FROM COLOGNE

On Saturday 18 June, A-ROSA’s ground-breaking new river cruise ship, A-ROSA SENA, departed from Cologne on her maiden voyage. To the delight of the guests and crew on board, the ship sailed out of the city silently and emission free due to the ships innovative hybrid propulsion ‘E-Motion’ system, which enables the vessel to switch to battery power when arriving and departing ports.

The day before her departure, A-ROSA SENA was blessed by Deacon Michael Inden and then christened by Clara Eichler, the daughter of A-ROSA’s CEO Jörg Eichler in Dusseldorf. The ceremony took place in the presence of the management, the investors and the crew and was kept small as the ship’s original maiden voyage date was set back by a few weeks, due to supply chain disruption caused by the pandemic.

Lucia Rowe, managing director at A-ROSA River Cruises UK & Ireland comments: “This is what we have all be waiting for – our next generation ship has set sail, paving the way for our future fleet. She is like nothing seen before on the rivers and we are so very proud of what we’ve achieved. It is just wonderful she is now here and sailing on the Northern Rhine.

“Her sustainability credentials demonstrate to the industry just what can be done. Her hybrid propulsion system, exhaust gas purification filters and her ability to turn exhaust gas into electricity are just some of the incredible things that set her apart from anything we’ve seen previously.”

A-ROSA SENA also recently received the ‘German Award for Sustainability Projects 2022’ for her environmentally friendly technologies in the transport service sector.

Rowe continues: “Alongside this, many of her family and multigenerational features such as the dedicated kids club room, family cabins sleeping up to five and the separate children’s pool on the sundeck have never been seen before on a river cruise ship.”

A-ROSA SENA is the first river cruise ship on the Rhine to features four decks of spacious interior public areas, plus a large sundeck. She also boasts a large spa complete with a Finnish sauna, jacuzzi, treatment rooms, gym, relaxation room and even an ice grotto with ice fountain, plus various dining options.

A-ROSA SENA will now sail a seven-night itinerary from Cologne, calling at Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Dordrecht and Antwerp. In true A-ROSA style, flexibility is key and guests can choose to disembark and explore individually and at their own pace, or join a range of excursions which are offered by A-ROSA. These include a canoe trip through the nature reserve Biesbosch, a culinary city tour through Antwerp and a visit the Madurodam miniature park in Rotterdam, plus many more.
