Andrea Bocelli to Take Centre Stage at Cunard Queen Anne Naming Ceremony
An Unforgettable Celebration Awaits: Legendary Tenor Andrea Bocelli and More at Liverpool Waterfront
On 3rd June, Liverpool Waterfront will be the scene of an extraordinary celebration as the iconic Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli leads a stellar line-up of performers to commemorate Queen Anne’s maiden call to its spiritual home. This event, marking another significant milestone in Cunard’s storied history, promises to be a spectacle of music, culture, and heritage.
Joining Bocelli will be some of Liverpool’s finest talents, including the renowned Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and performers from the Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts. The special naming ceremony will be hosted by musician Matt Willis and his wife, TV presenter Emma Willis, adding an extra layer of star power to the event. The couple will be joined on stage by special guests and the official Godparent for the naming of Queen Anne, culminating in the traditional smashing of a bottle of Champagne against the 249th ship to carry the Cunard name.
The ceremony will reach its climax with a breathtaking performance by Andrea Bocelli, ensuring an unforgettable evening for all attendees. But the celebration doesn’t end there. The festivities will continue with additional performances from the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, the Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts, and DJ Lauren Lo Sung. The energy will then shift to a lively funk and soul set by Craig Charles, guaranteeing the party keeps going until Queen Anne departs amidst a dazzling fireworks display.
Katie McAlister, President of Cunard, expressed her excitement: “Liverpool is known the world over as Cunard’s spiritual home, and we are thrilled to announce Maestro Bocelli as part of our incredible line-up of talented artists and performers for this special event. This celebration is a tribute to our rich history and a testament to the enduring bond between Cunard and the city of Liverpool. We look forward to honouring this legacy with a celebration of unforgettable performances that reflect the spirit and vibrancy of both our company and this magnificent city.”
Bocelli himself shared his enthusiasm: “It’s an honour to be performing in Liverpool, for the Official Naming Ceremony of Queen Anne. This event promises to be a beautiful celebration of artistry and craftsmanship, which perfectly captures the spirit and elegance of Cunard’s new ship. To be taking part in such a historic occasion, in a city rich in cultural heritage, truly brings me great joy.”
The celebrations are expected to attract thousands of attendees, adding yet another significant chapter to Cunard’s rich legacy. Historically, Cunard ships have drawn massive crowds to the Mersey’s banks, notably over a million spectators for the QE2’s maiden call in July 1990 and the 2015 Three Queens ‘royal rendezvous’ celebrating Cunard’s 175th anniversary. This event is poised to be another memorable occasion, adding to the vibrant tapestry of Liverpool’s maritime heritage.
Whether attendees are fans of classical music, Cunard enthusiasts, or simply seeking an extraordinary experience, the 3rd of June at Liverpool Waterfront is a date not to be missed. The celebration will honour the spirit of Liverpool and the grandeur of Queen Anne, ensuring memories that will last a lifetime.
