Queen Mary 2 Crew Celebrate Coronation

Queen Mary 2 Crew Celebrate Coronation of His Majesty The King and Her Majesty The Queen Consort

This is the incredible moment crew aboard Queen Mary 2 paid tribute to the coronation of His Majesty The King and Her Majesty The Queen Consort in true Cunard style.

Captain Aseem Hashmi MNM*, who swore allegiance to the new King as Master of QM2 on 10 September 2022 (upon the official proclamation which took place at St. James’s Palace), was joined on the top deck of the luxury cruise brand’s flagship by some of the ship’s company – including his senior officers, Cunard bellhops, chefs, housekeepers, and White Star servers.

The picture above, taken on 2 May, shows the crew forming the royal cypher CRIII as a special tribute on behalf of Cunard to His Majesty The King, who is now Lord High Admiral of the United Kingdom Royal Navy & Merchant Navy.

The world’s only ocean-going liner was docked in her home port of Southampton at the start of its Coronation Celebration voyage at the time this photo was taken.

Cunard’s royal connections date back to August 1861, when Prince Alfred sailed from Halifax to Liverpool on Cunard’s SS Arabia. More recently, Cunard is immensely proud that members of the royal family have graced each of the ships in its fleet.

To mark this momentous occasion, all three Cunard Queens will be broadcasting the ceremony live from Westminster Abbey into their Royal Court Theatres and guest stateroom TVs, and will later host street parties in the Grand Lobbies to themed musical performances, films, and quizzes.

Captain Aseem Hashmi MNM, Master of Queen Mary 2, said: “It was an absolute privilege to pay a special Cunard tribute for the coronation of His Majesty The King and Her Majesty The Queen Consort. Our company shares a unique bond with the royal family, and it was only right that we joined the nation in celebrating this historic occasion.”
