In a dazzling celebration on the cusp of Royal Caribbean International's 55th anniversary, the world's largest cruise line unveiled its latest masterpiece – the Icon of the Seas. The star-studded event, graced by none other than legendary football icon Lionel Messi, marked the culmination of seven years of innovation and dreaming to deliver the world's best family vacation.
Messi, named the Icon of Icon by Royal Caribbean, expressed his excitement, stating, "Everything I’ve seen on Icon of the Seas is next level. There are experiences for the whole family to make memories that they’ll remember forever." The ceremony, hosted by four-time Emmy award-winning host Mario Lopez, took place in the AquaDome neighborhood, showcasing the engineering marvels and experiential wonders that await passengers on Icon.
Royal Caribbean Group President and CEO Jason Liberty emphasised that Icon of the Seas is more than just a ship; it signifies a new era of vacations. With Lionel Messi presiding over the naming, the cruise line aims to deliver iconic memories for millions of football fans worldwide.
The inauguration, featuring Messi's signature bottle-breaking ceremony, was nothing short of iconic. Icon had already made waves in October 2022, prompting the single largest booking day and the highest volume booking week in Royal Caribbean's history at that time.
President and CEO of Royal Caribbean International, Michael Bayley, remarked, "Officially naming Icon marks more than the introduction of a new ship; it is the start of a new era of vacations, and we’re excited to see tens of millions of families and friends make their mark with memories they create together and on their own adventures without compromise."
Icon promises a vacation experience like no other, with eight neighbourhoods offering a diverse range of activities. From record-breaking waterslides to a suspended infinity pool at sea, the ship boasts thrilling adventures for all. Families with young kids can enjoy a dedicated neighbourhood, and food enthusiasts will find delight in over 40 restaurants, bars, and lounges.
The inaugural cruise on January 27, 2024, will take guests on a 7-night Eastern or Western Caribbean adventure, featuring idyllic destinations and a day of thrill and relaxation at Royal Caribbean’s private island, Perfect Day at CocoCay in The Bahamas. Notably, the private island's new adults-only escape, Hideaway Beach, will enhance the perfect day experience with private beaches, pools, cabanas, live music, and more.
